I reached Intel's time limit...
Once again I have reached Intel's temporary contractor time limit, which is currently 18 months. I enjoyed my time there and am sorry it's over. Intel requires a six month break, so I can't go back as a contractor before November. Stupid, stupid rules...

I'm finally working again!
Today I went back to Intel as a temporary contractor again. I've been there so many times that I lost count long ago, but at least I'm familiar with the place. I really wish companies like Intel would actually hire people instead of making a bunch of contract agencies rich while temporary workers get little or no benefits, but I don't have the luxury of being able to refuse to work under such conditions. At least it will help pay the bills for as long as they need me...

Tanya got hired!
She has actually been on the job for a few months as a temporary worker, but as of today she's a Wells Fargo employee. Sometimes good things happen when you do good work...

It's my last day at Microsoft
Well, I just finished a year at Microsoft. It would have been longer, but they have a nasty rule that requires contractors to take a 100-day break after a year. I was hoping this would turn into a full time telecommuting position, but my boss didn't have the authority to make that happen. Things could still change. If nothing else, a year at Microsoft using some of their latest software build and deployment tools will surely look good on my resume.

Tanya's employer laid off about 100 people
Glenn Walters Nursery laid off about 100 people today, including Tanya. I don't think she's all that upset about it though; the people she worked with weren't a lot of fun to be around.

I started a new job
It's another entry in a long list of temporary contract jobs. I had been refusing non-local work, but when you're running out of money and have big house payments you don't always have a choice...
This time I'm working at Microsoft. I'm staying with Debbie and Brian (my sister and her husband) in Redmond, Washington during the week and spending weekends at home in Hillsboro, Oregon. No, I'm not working in Redmond, I'm working in Issaquah. I'm driving over 500 miles per week...

Tanya started a new job!
She started working today at Glenn Walters Nursery, which is located about four miles from our house. Finally, she has a short commute. The job is in Accounts Payable, like her previous work at Fred Meyer.

Ilya was in an accident today
He's OK except for a few scratches from the airbag... It wasn't his fault; he said some old lady ran a light. Unfortunately his 1995 BMW is totalled.

Plane crash near our previous house
A 1951 British fighter jet that had been on display at the air show in Hillsboro crashed in a densely populated neighborhood North of our previous house today. One house was destroyed and three others were damaged. Miraculously, the pilot was the only casualty. The plane was taking off from the Hillsboro airport to return to California when it went down.
