House walk-through appointment is done

We had the walk-through this morning. We had our own list of items to ask about or verify, and they had found & corrected some of those items by the time we started. By the time we finished there were only a few items left, which were expected to be taken care of today. The big question that we don't have an answer to yet is "where's the microwave?".

The last hurdle to clear is the final inspection, which we expected to happen today. Unfortunately there were still a few small issues to resolve. Hopefully tomorrow will be the day...

It's nice to see progress :-)

The carpet is done except for an area on the stairs, and the closet shelves have been installed also.

More New House News

I was told today that the heating ducts have been cleaned and the new air quality test has been done (we hope it's the last). They hope to have the results in a day or two. The latest _tentative_ closing date that we've heard is April 28.

We've been busy!

Among other things, we ordered the new refrigerator, washer & dryer, and even the pool table. We still don't know when we can have them delivered, but the stores will hold them until we're ready.

The landscaping is done, and the mailboxes have even been installed. I was beginning to think nobody bothered to tell the Postal Service that mailboxes would be needed soon :-)

Progress in spite of the delay :-)

Lots of the finishing details are being done now. Carpet installation is being delayed because the air quality test indicated that the heating ducts needed to be cleaned (by specialists), but that's apparently the only item being held up. When I checked today I found that the garage steps had been installed, as well as the bathroom mirrors, towel racks and toilet paper holders. The shower stall in the master bathroom now has the two glass sides that were missing, and I was pleasantly surprised to see a glass door on the first floor bathroom's shower stall. I expected to have to add that myself.

We had ordered blinds for some of the windows, but nobody told that supplier it was time to come and measure the windows. I talked to that guy yesterday and he measured today. I'm not sure if the blinds will be installed by the time we start moving in, but they'll do what they can...

More progress - and another delay!

More landscaping work has been done (plants added). The low-voltage wiring has been finished and the surround-sound speakers installed. Also, the thermostat was being installed while I was there.

The air quality test results provided a mix of good news and not-so-good news. The good news is that the main area tested just fine. Unfortunately the heating ducts turned out to be a problem area, so the current plan is to have the ducts cleaned by specialists and then test again Thursday, with results expected next Monday. This wasn't the news I was hoping for, but it isn't a disaster. Apparently the carpet installation is the only work that needs to be delayed any further, so everything else that remains to be done can continue. This situation shouldn't delay closing by more than a week, although it could be less than that.

New House Progress

Landscaping has been started, and it looks like the last of the painting has been finished. Carpet installation will be done after the results of an air quality test are known. That's a followup to make sure the mold problem is really gone. The test results should come back on Monday or Tuesday.

New House Progress

The house was locked when I got there today, so I didn't get any pictures. I could see through the windows that the stove had been installed and the wrought-iron pickets had been added to the stairway railing. The open railing was an expensive option, but it looks much better than the walls we could have had instead. The outside lights have been installed, and the house number "3804" is in place. We may want to consider painting the numbers white; I doubt that black-on-brown will be easy to read after dark...

Still waiting for the low-voltage wiring people to come back and add their wall plates and the surround sound speakers... carpet and landscaping are also still needed...

New House Progress

Most of the light fixtures, switches, outlets, and other electrical items have been installed. A cleaning crew was washing windows and generally making things shine today. We have a tentative closing date of the 17th, which is two weeks from today. Only a few major items remain to be finished...

New House Progress

There isn't as much progress as I hoped for, but they did get the sinks, faucets, and toilets installed. The water heater has also been installed, and they have at least started to install the sprinkler system for the front yard. There seems to be more molding installed every time I see the house, and the half-wall on the end of the bonus room has been capped with wood. It would be interesting to know the total number of feet of molding needed in that house; I think the number would be very surprising.
